How Dental Insurance Works
Every dental insurance plan is unique, so you will need to review the details of your specific policy to find out how it works. Generally speaking, though, many PPO plans operate on the following structure:
- Preventive care is usually 100% covered.
- Minor services are often 80% covered.
- Major services (many of our treatments fall into this category) are up to 50% covered on some plans.
What Is the Difference Between Dental & Medical Insurance?
Even though oral health is a key part of overall health, dental and medical insurance remain separated. Medical insurance focuses on your head-to-toe wellness, and it applies to things like your annual physical, chronic and acute disease management, and emergency care. It does not cover routine dental care.
Dental insurance, on the other hand, focuses on preventing problems with your smile, so it provides robust coverage for things like cleanings and exams. It can also help to pay for major services.
In certain cases, there is crossover between medical and dental insurance. For example, they might both apply to certain types of oral surgery.
In-Network vs. Out-of-Network
Whether our practice is in your insurance network or outside of it, you are welcome to use your PPO benefits in any of our offices.
In-Network Coverage
If we are in-network with a plan, it means we have a contract with your insurance company that manages fees. Usually, patients pay less out-of-pocket when they visit an in-network provider. Our practice is proud to be in-network with:
- Delta Dental
- Cigna
Out-of-Network
PPO plans allow you to visit virtually any dental professional in the U.S., regardless of network status. Even if we are not in your network, you might be pleasantly surprised by the benefits you can enjoy when you visit us. Remember, the most important thing is to choose a team whom you truly trust to care for your smile!
