If you’re missing most or all of your teeth, All-on-4 dental implants<\/a>, sometimes called \u201cTeeth in a Day,\u201d are one of the most efficient ways to rebuild your smile! Instead of placing an individual implant for every missing tooth, this treatment uses just four strategically positioned implants to support a full, fixed arch of replacement teeth, and it can often be done in just a single appointment. However, because All-on-4 does involve a surgical procedure, it’s natural to have questions about what recovery will look like. Here’s what you need to know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

What to Expect Right After All-on-4 Surgery<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Immediately after your procedure (24 to 48 hours), you can expect some swelling, mild bruising, and tenderness around the surgical site; don\u2019t worry, though, as this is a normal part of the healing process! You\u2019ll be given detailed post-operative instructions, which typically include resting with your head elevated, applying ice packs to manage swelling, and taking any prescribed pain medication as directed to address your discomfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s also important to arrange for someone to drive you to the office and back home after surgery, and they should also plan to check on you for the rest of the day. As for you, be sure to clear your schedule and plan to take it easy for the first day or two while you recover!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While much of the visible swelling and general discomfort decreases within a week or two, the full healing process continues for several months as your implants undergo osseointegration, which is the process where they fuse with your jawbone to create a stable, long-lasting foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eating, Drinking, & Caring for Your Mouth as You Heal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For the first several days, you’ll need to stick to a soft or liquid diet, such as soups, broths, smoothies, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, yogurt, and similar items. As healing progresses over the following weeks, you can gradually reintroduce more solid foods, but it’s best to avoid anything hard, crunchy, or sticky at first. Of course, be sure to drink plenty of water throughout recovery!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keeping your mouth clean during recovery is also essential to prevent infection, but you’ll need to be gentle around the surgical areas. You\u2019ll be given instructions on how to adjust your oral hygiene routine at first, and you\u2019ll likely have a prescribed mouth rinse to use in addition to brushing. Avoiding tobacco products and alcohol during this time can also significantly improve your healing outcome, since both can interfere with proper tissue and bone healing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bottom line is, while All-on-4 recovery does require some patience and care, most patients find the process manageable!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
